Forbes ranks the GM's
What do you get when you fail to surround your once in a generation superstar (Kevin Garnett) with a supporting cast and end up falling flat on your face every time the play-offs come around? Well, you get named as the best GM in sports.
Forbes came out with a list ranking the top General Managers in sports and Timberwolves GM Kevin McHale got the top spot for some reason. The argument is that the Timberwolves have made the play-offs 8 times and have had a .539 winning percentage under McHale's watch.
Well, I'm just going to keep it simple here. If you were starting an NBA Franchise, or you had a choice of any current GM in the NBA to run your team, would you pick McHale? No, probably not.
Another bizarre entry is the Sixers' Billy King at number 3. Another man who failed to surround his superstar (Iversen) with sufficient talent, causing him to get so frustrated that he demanded a trade out of Philly. The Sixers outlook is as bleak as this wasteland yet King cracks the top 3. Wonderful...
Matt Millen ranks 96 out of a possible 98 but considering that the list is called "best General Managers in Sports", you can make the case that Millen shouldn't even be in there.
Bengals GM Mike Brown and Raiders GM Michael Lombardi are below Millen, meaning that these men have basically hit rock bottom in their respective craft. Being ranked below Matt Millen is like being worse than "Gigli". It's worse than if "Gigli" was spoken in Russian and had Swedish subtitles. It's worse than having to clean the toilet after Peter King's colonic...
John Shuerholtz comes in at # 42, which is too low in my dumb and biased opinion. The man only built a team that won 14 straight division titles, made 5 World Series appearances and won 1 World Series ring. You can argue that Shuerholtz's teams also choked like Latrell Sprewell in the post-season, but 14 straight division titles is the stuff that gets you an unlimited amount of Asian hookers.
Dolphins GM Randy Mueller comes in at # 22, but I really don't know if that's good or bad judging by this list.
