The Cardinals want to build an offensive juggernaut
Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt has said that they will take Adrian Peterson in the draft is he's available at # 5. The Cardinals would love Joe Thomas and they clearly have a need at offensive tackle but Thomas will probably not be available when 'Zona steps up to the plate. Peterson on the other hand will probably still be there at # 5 and the Cards will not hesitate to jump on him.
If this scenario plays out, the Cardinals would suddenly have a very impressive group of young talent on the offensive side of the ball. Boldin and Fitzgerald piss pure excellence on a daily basis and even though I want to beat Matt Leinart with a led pipe, I'll have to admit that he did a decent job of running that offense in his rookie year. If you add Peterson to that mix, the Cards suddenly have a core of young players that every team in the league will envy.
Drafting Peterson would give the Cards two positives. They immediately get their back of the future and he could help out Edgerrin James right now. James ran worse than my mother last year and you can bet that Whisenhunt will want to improve that running game. With so many teams having had success running the ball with two capable running backs, the Cards will also have a nice combo in James and Peterson.
But this still doesn't change the fact that the offensive line needs much improvement. The Cards may have great talent at the skill positions but if the offensive line can't protect the qb or open any running lanes, it won't matter at all.
