5 minutes with : Christopher 'Shorty' Smith

The first time I came across a blog called 'Milk was a bad choice', two things immediately jumped out. An Anchorman reference and a picture of Jason Taylor. Basically, when another Dolfan quotes Anchorman, you get a major winner in my book.

So, continuing with our interviews, here's 'Shorty' from Milk was a bad choice.

How did you start "Milk was a bad choice"? What was the process behind that?

I originally started the site just as a glorified Myspace page. I wanted a medium to write some of my random thoughts. I had no idea when I started it last year that it would turn into the monster it has become...


"Milk was a bad choice" is an interesting name. How did that come to stand?

The name is an obvious tribute to one of my favorite lines in Anchorman. It was between "Bad Choice Milk" and "Dorothy Mantooth's Sainthood". Either way it was a win-win situation.


You have a couple of partners in crime there at MWABC. How do you guys decide on content? Or is it every person on his/her own?

My buddy Brian is a DJ in New York City and originally he was going to help me out by posting about music every Thursday, but that kind of evolved into him posting his favorite Youtube clips whenever he's got free time. My friend K.O. has also posted on occasion, though his main focus is informing the masses of the wonderful game of Beer-Die via his site.


How much time do you spend a day on blogging or reading stuff from around the blogosphere?

I used to spend a few hours a day reading & writing but this summer that time has been cut drastically because of work & school.


Which writers out there inpsire you with the way you write?

There are two guys who I read religiously who inspire me to be a better writer. Joey from 'Straight Bangin' & Jeff from 'Passion of the Weiss'. They both write more about music than sports, but they are my personal favorites.


Name some of your favorite blogs out there.

I've done some work for both 'The Extrapolator' and 'Pyle of List', so they are automatic mentions. I also frequently check out 'Awful Announcing' & 'Reel Fanatic' which is an entertainment site.

Best athletic achievement?

I scored 23 points in one game when i was in 8th grade. All this despite being suspended for the 1st quarter and being totally incapable of dribbling with my left hand.

I see you're a huge Dolphins fan, much like myself. What's your opinion on the team right now and what are you expecting from them next season?

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Chris Chambers for jumping behind the wheel after his 14th drink the other night. That was real smart. Shorty's prediction - 2007 Dolphins (8-8).
