5 minutes with : Sooze
By far, my favorite blogger on the entire internets is Sooze from the amazing Babes Love Baseball. BLB mixes baseball news with comedy and satire in a way that is as awesome as a cross-dressing midget in a magic show. But Sooze's talents aren't bound to BLB alone, since now she'll also be flexing her typing muscles on the new all-star blog, the Epic Carnival.
So yes, here's 5 minutes with the best female sports blogger on the planet.
The facts...
Name: Suzy
Age: 26
Location: Winona, Minnesota
Occupation: Embroiderer
Favorite Teams: Minnesota Twins, Gophers, Timberwolves and the Green Bay Packers
How long have you been blogging, and how did it all start?
It started as a Twins blog on Myspace, where I ranted and raved about Brad Radke's arm falling off and all things Minnesotan. I think maybe one person read it. Then, I met Lizzy on Deadspin and we decided in October of last year to join forces.
How many hours a day do you spend blogging? Describe how an average day of posting would work.
I usually do drafts in the middle of the night, when I get home from work. I maybe spend 2 hours a day on average on the blog, depending on how motivated I am.
Lizzy is your partner in crime there at BLB. Do you guys discuss who's going to post what..or is it every woman for herself?
Lizzy is the busiest woman in the universe. So, I end up doing most of the posting. However, when something major happens in Beantown, she's all over it.
You both live-blogged the all-star game over at Deadspin. Tell us how that experience was...
It was really fun. At first, the comments weren't working, so we thought we broke it. Kind of nerve-wracking. But in the end, it was a great experience and we'd absolutely do it again.
Your favorite post that you've done over at BLB.
I think our Under The Bleachers posts are my favorite. Any kind of satire - the things that we can be silly with - are always great.
Favorite post from other blog.
Pyle of Lists' Kill Buss. No question. Everything from the content to the photos was perfect. Also, can I mention how much I miss Bat Girl??
What other blogs out there do you read regularly?
I read so many, it's ridiculous. Blown Coverage (wink, wink) The Extrapolater, Deadspin, Awful Announcing, The Dugout, The Big Lead, Signal to Noise, The Fanhouse, The Feed, One More Dying Quail, Epic Carnival (a new project I'm thrilled to be involved in), lots of Minnesota-based blogs like A Fan's View From Section 220 and RandBall, Shot to Nothing, the list could easily fill this page.
Is there anyone or anything that inspires you in your writing?
The idiocy that happens on a daily basis in our world. That, and my undying love for the game of baseball.
Dream job?
Bounty Hunter.
Suggestions for future interview?
The guys from the Dugout or maybe Kyle from Doberman on the Diamond - both very funny.
Best sports memory..
Kirby's performance in Game 6 of the 1991 World Series... I was 10 years old. He was a one-man show and I'll never forget it.
(Editor's note : I was 8 at the time, and this moment also doubles as my worst sports memory since I'm a Braves fan. I'll also never forget it and it still hurts at night when I go to bed.)
(Editor's note 2 : Actually, my worst sports memory came on October 23rd 1996, courtesy of a gentleman named Jim Leyritz. Fuck Jim Leyritz.)
Worst sports memory..
When the Twins were swept by the A's in the ALDS last season. I thought it was our year for sure. With the death of Kirby Puckett, Brad Radke's retirement and the amazing comeback from 12.5 games back in the middle of June, how could they not win it all?! It was heart-breaking.
You're a huge Twins fan. I'll have to ask you to give a 2nd half prediction and give me a World Series prediction while you're at it.
I'm going to go ahead and predict the same thing I do every season. The Twins will win the AL Central, roll through the playoffs and meet the Braves in the World Series.
In the end, what do you want BLB to be known for?
Ah, I'd just like for people to enjoy reading it and find something unique each time they visit.
