I'm a bit late with this

I know I'm very late with this, but the more I think of it, the more it bothers me. Tony La Russa kept one of the game's best hitters (Pujols) on the bench, in the bottom of the ninth, with the team down by one, the bases loaded and with 2 outs. I mean, if there's ever a spot to have some big lumber up there taking some hacks...it's right there.

I didn't note this in my random observations last night, but that's probably because my mind was still recovering from the brutal raping it got by Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Either way, La Russa opted to let Orlando Hudson and Aaron Rowand hit while Pujols' ass remained firmly on the bench and as expected, he's not very happy today.

"It's the All-Star game. He can do what he wants," Pujols said postgame. "He does whatever he wants. If I wasn't expecting to play, I wouldn't have come up here".

But don't worry. Tony got his shot in as well...

"Whatever he wants to do, he can do. It's America. That wasn't the most important thing tonight," La Russa said.

Now, I'm not saying that Pujols would have come through and win the game. I mean, you could spot the National League a 17 run lead and they'd probably still lose the game by five and Pujols is going through a major home-run drought right now....but it's still Albert Fuckin' Pujols. I don't like the guy, I'm not a fan, but I recognize greatness when I see it and he should have been up there in that situation.

Pujols could be suffering from Gout while walking around with a hideous hump on his back, but I'd still take him over Aaron Rowand or Orlando Hudson. Either way, I hope that La Russa gets kicked in the liver by whichever N.L. team that makes the Worlds Series.
