This Deserved its Own Post

Lost in the furor surrounding Barry Bonds' quest for #755 was another home run-related feat, this one nearly as impressive: Jason Tyner's 1st career home run, after a 1220 AB "dry spell." I never thought I'd live to see the day. Congrats, Jason. You can read about all the juicy details here. This achievement is almost, but not quite as impressive as managing to get 1318 major league plate appearances while contributing almost nothing offensively. I'll never know how he pulled that off.
By the way: this has to be mighty embarassing for Jake Westbrook, who coughed up the milestone shot; a 6.20 ERA is no fun, but giving up a homer to Jason Tyner really adds insult to injury.
A final note: fantasy owners in need of power, feel free to continue not owning Tyner. A homer binge is not forthcoming. Unless Tyner had a little artificial help in ending the drought...George Mitchell better look into this immediately, before a Jason Tyner power barrage makes a further mockery of the game.
