756*

Barry Bonds is the new homerun king but by now you know that already. If you don't know, it's either because you have no interest whatsoever in sports or you have actually been living in a cave somewhere on a remote South Pacific island. Bonds hit no. 756 off of Washington pitcher Mike Bascik and it's a moment that I've been dreading for a while now.

I've made no secret about the fact that I don't like Bonds. I won't say that I hate him because hate is a very strong word, but I've never liked him. I've never liked his attitude and I've never liked how he's been towards the media and fans. But just like with most people that don't like Barry, I have an issue with the fact that he cheated. I think that he cheated and I think there's plenty of evidence there to show that he has cheated.

So yes, here's a guy with the charisma of an angry polar bear who has basically used performance enhancers and he was on his way to breaking the the most hallowed record in sports. A record held by Hank Aaron, a Brave and someone that is held in very high regard by us Braves fans. Not a good combination at all.

Now, I'll admit that Barry has the best eye in baseball. No one knows the strike zone like he does and his walk totals prove that. I'll admit that he's put up historic numbers during the past couple of years and I'll also admit that being strong doesn't automatically make you hit homeruns. Scott Thorman is as strong as they come and he's probably the easiest out on the Braves current roster.

I'll admit all of that, but the fact that he cheated still taints this in my opinion. When I think of Bonds, I can't think of his accomplishments because there's just that cloud hanging over him. But hey, it happened and there's nothing we can do about it anymore. Barry's the king for now but I'll be rooting even harder now for Alex Rodriguez or whoever else to surpass him one day.

'Till then, it just won't feel right.
