Surely there must be a better way

I had mentioned this earlier over at the Epic Carnival but I just felt the need to write some more about it. Browns coach Romeo Crennel is having some problems deciding who his starting Qb will be for tomorrow's game against the Chiefs, so he's going to decide it by tossing a coin.
With Cleveland's quarterback derby a dead heat, Browns coach Romeo Crennel is flipping a coin to decide if Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson starts Saturday's exhibition game against Kansas City."That's the fairest way," he said.
Who makes the call, coach?
"Maybe we'll play rock, paper, scissors for that," Crennel cracked.
At least he has a good sense of humor. Now I know that this is only the first pre-season game and that it means as much as Patrick Ramsey's career but still, I wouldn't really be feeling all that great right now if I was a Browns fan.
Maybe I'm old-fashioned and not "with the times" but I'm from that camp that wants a team to pick its starters based upon competition and you know, being the better player. But hey, with the Browns their luck, Charlie Frey will toss the coin up and tear a ligament in his throwing wrist.

I heard there is a quarterback competition in Cleveland. I think that competition is focused on the regular season, however. I guess the thinking is, instead of ending the competition before the preseason begins, the preseason will be used to evaluate players. You're right though, this is a horrible idea.
And for the record, I don't think you're old-fashioned, or even stupid.
Awesome..
