Trent Green booed in pre-season opener

Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said that the team did zero game planning and that he only had 40% of his offense installed so far and it was very apparent during Miami's pre-season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Dolphins won 18-17 but that was despite an offense that looked lethargic at best.

Trent Green got the start but he struggled as he only completed 6 of his 15 pass attempts for 60 yards. Green took every snap of the first half but could only lead the offense to one field goal and as a result he got booed by the crowd.

"It's a crazy business," said Green, who added he didn't hear the jeers. "People can respond to different things. I don't take a lot of that too much to heart being that it's the first preseason game. That's why you play preseason games."

It's just the first game of the pre-season so of course everyone's going to be rusty and that's why you have the find the little positives wherever you can.

  • The good
Ronnie Brown's back-up Jessie Chatman looked good, especially on his 74-yard touchdown run.

Derek Hagan had himself a nice night, catching 3 passes for 47 yards and building upon his strong training camp.

Ted Ginn was solid, running smooth routes and looking good on his kick returns.

John Beck got a nice reception from the crowd and led a nice drive towards the end that won the game.

The defensive live, in particularly Rod Wright, Matt Roth and Vonnie Holiday all put in very solid performances, with Holiday even getting a penalty for a big hit he put on Byron Leftwich.

  • The bad
Old Qb + bad offensive line play = stomach ulcer for us. That O-line looked worse than last season and that is saying something.

The secondary which clearly still is the weak link of the defense gave up 148 pass yards and did not look good at all. Depth is still clearly an issue there.

Hopefully for the next game, coach Cameron will have some sort of game plan and a bigger part of the offense installed so we can get a better idea how far along the group is. But that still won't matter if the offensive line doesn't start to gel and play better. Trent Green and Ronnie Brown will have very rough times ahead if that line doesn't improve soon.
